The fifth edition of the Materials Challenge competition was held from Mehr 1403 to Ordibehesht 1404 (October 2024 to May 2025), with the aim of familiarizing students with real industrial challenges, promoting teamwork, and teaching methods for solving industrial problems.
The competition was organized by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology, in collaboration with the Research Vice Presidency of Sharif University of Technology, the Entrepreneurship Center of Sharif University of Technology, the Science and Technology Park of Sharif University of Technology, and the Academic Jihad Organization of Sharif University of Technology.
In this edition, three industrial challenges in the fields of polymers, ceramics, and heat treatment were presented by the sponsoring companies: Parsa Polymer Sharif, MIDHCO, and the knowledge-based company Partovi Naghsh Jahan, respectively. Students competed in teams of 3 to 5 members.
The opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the “Materials Challenge” competition was held on 28 Mehr 1403 (October 20, 2024), and the closing ceremony took place on 10 Ordibehesht 1404 (April 30, 2025). Both events were attended by a group of faculty members from Sharif University of Technology, leading industry experts from across the country, competition participants, and other interested individuals.
At the closing ceremony, the following speakers delivered speeches:
• Dr. Mohsen Kazeminejad, the esteemed Dean of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology
• Dr. Adrineh Malek Khachatourian, the respected Vice Dean for Student and Cultural Affairs of the Department
• Mr. Abolfazl Sabbaghi, Secretary of this edition of the Materials Challenge competition
This was followed by speeches from:
• Dr. Reza Bagheri, faculty member of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology, one of the founders and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Parsa Polymer Sharif (a sponsor of the competition)
• Engineer Morteza Saffari, Head of Research and Development at the Mining and Mineral Industries Value Creation Company (a sponsor of the competition)
Subsequently, a specialized panel on “Industry-Academia Connections in Materials Engineering” was held, moderated by Mr. Kiarash Haghani, Vice Secretary of the Assembly of Scientific Associations at Sharif University of Technology, with the participation of Dr. Hamidreza Madah Hosseini, Dr. Majid Pouranvari, and Dr. Abolghasem Dolati, faculty members of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Sharif University of Technology.
Subsequently, the winning teams and the selected teams were honored. At the end of the ceremony, appreciation was also extended to the members of the organizing committee for this edition of the Materials Challenge competition.
