Ceramics and Refectory Materials Laboratory

Ceramic lab in the dept. of Materials science and Engineering are equipped with various equipments and carries out powder processing, sintering and characterization, principally in connection with various ceramics. Major research facilities in this lab are:

  • - High temperature microscope (up to 1500ºC)

  • - Thermal analysis instruments including Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Dilatometer (for thermal expansion measurement in both air vacuum up to 10-4 bar at high temperature)

  • - Various types of furnaces (up to 1800ºC)

  • - Physical and thermal properties measurements (density, porosity and thermal conductivity)

  • - Mechanical properties measurements at low and high temperature (specially for refractory); such as :

  • - Torsion Test

  • - Refractoriness Under Load (RUL)

    - Cold Crushing Strength (CCS) and Modulus of Rupture (MOR)

  • - Refractoriness Tester (PCE or zegar cone test)

  • - High Temperature  Modulus of Rupture (HMOR)

  • - Instruments for Electrical properties measurements (from 10-6 up to 1020).

  • - Sample preparation equipments

  • - Equipment for measuring the Refectories under load (RuL)

  • - Dilatometry and DIA unit
